Education

Education is a fundamental right for every child regardless of gender, color, religion, background, location, or income. Unfortunately, many children don’t have the opportunity to attend school and receive a quality education. Lack of education is a common problem, particularly in low-income areas of Africa.

Poverty and economic growth are the primary factors that prevent parents from being able to send their children to school. As a result, many children drop out of school and can’t read or develop comprehension.

When children are not in school, their health and well-being suffer. Children who do not receive proper education are at a higher risk of disadvantage, child marriage, forced labor, and violence. Not having an education can cause difficulties in finding suitable employment and developing a stable income as adults, which causes them to become a liability to society.

Some hurdles children face while pursuing an education include distance, cost, safety, facility access/availability, and social barriers. We aim to provide scholarships, training sessions, cash transfers, meals at learning spaces, child-friendly schools, and sanitation facilities.

In Africa, SCAN has helped numerous out-of-school children continue their education through our after-school activities, which we hold in community-based centers. SCAN has teamed up with trained teachers to provide three hours of daily education and skill training programs to children who cannot afford to go to school.

SCAN provides and encourages out-of-school children with alternative learning pathways while strengthening formal education systems for fully enrolled students. The initiative supports children into young adulthood through early childhood education, primary and secondary school, and vocational training.
